Best Answer:

if only your router supports wireless connections and you are currently using wireless connections you should and must secure your network well to do so thers no need to start all over again the only thing you have to do open your router configuration page (type your default gateway ip address in the address bar in the web browser page , if you donno where to find youre default gateway ---> in run type cmd press enter a black box opens type ipconfig and press enter and its there !) find a tab which is written wifi and look for the settings of wifi there must be an option which you could choose between WEP and WPA-PSK to secure your wireless connection choose WEP which is the most reliable one and then choose a password and valid !

The web pages you should get are the admin and configuration pages. If you hard reset it you will need to re-enter all the ISP login details from scratch. Once logged in go to wireless security and set an encryption key, then use your machine's wireless connection tool to find your router, set a matching key and connect.

ur not supposed to type ur ip type the ip of the gateway u see that icon of 2 computers on ur task bar. which indicates the connection double clisk on it.. and from that window.. if ur in xp.. select the next tab and click details from there you wil get the gateway ip address type it in explorer. it wil ask for the password.. see the manual for default username and password now u should get into the router page.. about the security there are a lot of options in front of u. you can either make it secure by using a password without hiding it.. that means ppl can see it.. but cant access it without the password.. next u can hide it completely..also set password with that. setting password is easy,,' the page you are now in is called the router page [i havnt seen this] ther should be an option for security make secure. WEP etc.. select WEP [wireless encryption protocol] and set the password you wil be disconected automatically now. now. the wifi- icon on desktop wil say some networks are available.. open it. it wil show ur networkk wen u connect it wil ask for a passkey.. type in the key and u are good to go.. if u had selected hide ssid.. u wont see any network.. also .. any one can get connected [its a funny trick]by typpin in any passkey but they wont be able to access anything.. it wil just say tht they are connected. dont get confused use the manul.. ull find everythin in picture there
